What is flagpoling ?

Flagpoling is the time-saving alternative to regular online or paper immigration applications. The term flagpoling in literal sense means “going around the flagpole”. Flagpoling refers to a process whereby foreign nationals residing inside Canada go to the US border, and apply for a new immigration document upon re-entering Canada.
For flagpoling you do not need a US visa as you do not travel to the USA.
Also, you don’t need a Canadian visa for flagpole purposes (but you must have a valid status in Canada).

Why Flagpoling

Due to different personal situations, applicants often need a quick response to their immigration application and can not wait the long processing times of online applications.
Flagpoling is a quick and effective method of getting your immigration case reviewed and a decision being made in front of you.
It normally takes around 1 hour for an officer at the border to process your case and to make a decision. With all additional required procedures at the US side, walking between borders and wait time will still be not more than 2-3 hours at maximum.
In-person conversation with an officer often helps to explain a client’s case better and to address any possible concerns.
You will be given a chance to provide clarifications, additional evidence and personal details through in-person conversation with an officer.
If needed, your Employer or Family Members may accompany you at the border in person.
